This is awesome.  Thanks to Steve Greenburg for tweeting it.  This was a moderated debate between Simon Crosby of Citrix and Scott Drummonds of Vmware around Hypervisor performance.
Watch the video here

For anyone following these 2 organizations you are well aware that they often trade jabs on their blogs.  This was just great to watch.  Simon is such a great debater, and speaker.

As a frequent user and implementer of XenServer I was thrilled to see some supporting documentation, and discussion around Hypervisor performance.

Kudos to Simon for keeping up the debate. Scott appeared pretty uncomfortable.

It looks like Apple is attempting to reversing it’s trend of bad press lately and has released a much anticipated app to the app store. Engadget is reporting that Apple released their Idisk App to the App store.

This is an app that users of MobileMe have been waiting for many years to get their hands on.

Thanks Nicole for the heads up!

Slashdot is reporting that Mcafee is being accused of leaking sensitive conference attendee personal info.  Mcafee Data Leak.

On  one hand it is pretty embarassing for a security company to have this occur. On the other hand it is pretty humbling that human error is usually the cause of most data leaks…..

I was recently assigned a case by another engineer.  The problem was that a user on XenApp was not able to use an application that they were previously able to. The user would get a generic “Access Denied” by the application which was a .net application published on XenApp. The Administrator account WAS able to run the application

After discussing it further with the engineer who worked on it previously it appears that an update was done to the application prior to this issue arising.

The first thing we tried was to temporarily escalate the permission level of a test user.  We granted a user local administrator rights as a temporary test. The user received the same error.  At this point we knew it was nothing to do with the usual folder/file/registry permissions error since the user still could not access the application.

At this point I turned to an old favorite RegMon from Microsoft.

With Regmon running I was able to launch the application as the user up to the point they were denied access. I reviewed the Regmon log and came across the following:

Regmon

Why was the user trying to access a dll in another users profile?  I copied that dll “scrrun.dll” to c:\windows

i then registered teh dll using regsvr32 c:\windows\scrrun.dll

Once the dll was registered I then had the normal user test the application. The user was able to access the application=Success!

The moral of the story was that the other administrator applied the update to the application without doing a change user/install.  I bet he wont do that again!

In a move that shows Citrix strongly beleives in the future of mobile computing they have announced a number of new client offerings.

Citrix has long had a “Client” for pocketpc/windows Mobile. It has recently added the Receiver for Iphone, a Receiver for Blackberryy, and now a Receiver for Google Android http://bit.ly/P0vSB.

Less important is the fact that you can now view your spreadsheet on a 3 inch screen but rather that Citrix is in a position to ride along with which mobile operating system rises to the top. It appears that they firmly believe the future of computing is mobile.

I have to admit I am starting to become a believer as well. Given the rumors that Apple is going to be launching a tablet in September that will be offered at a low cost via a subsidized agreement with Verizon, and the success of net books I too think it is a matter of time, and they are best to be prepared for the space.

Do you think the Mobile Computing market is getting enough attention from Citrix?

It seems that Apple and ATT are facing some tough business choices recently.

The first issue causing them some issues is the following report that ATT is blocking access to a message board http://bit.ly/Yvk18 that it claims was participating in a Denial of service (DOS) attack against it. The kicker is that this site is an image sharing site. The result is that the people using the site are more interested in generating a DOS attack now. Should be an interesting battle to watch.

The second issue causing concern is the anti competitive behavior that ATT is forcing Apple to participate in. According to Apple Insider Apple is being forced to pull any apps using Google Voice from the App store. We first saw ATT force Apple to put restrictions on Skype so that it only worked on WIFI, now this. Is it January yet? Come on Verizon time to shine!
